When you use essential oils, follow the directions listed on the label. Essential oils can be diffused, applied topically, inhaled, ingested and used in recipes. Usage directions differ for each of these products.

Are There Side Effects of Using Them?

It is best to test the essential oils first and also apply 1:1 ratio using a carrier oil, such as fractionated coconut oil.  It is possible to experience irritation or discomfort when using essential oils. If this occurs, stop using the product and consult your doctor before applying any topical oils or products on the affected area.

How fast do Essential Oils work?

It takes 22 seconds to reach the molecules in the brain. In 2 minutes essential oils will be found in the blood stream.  And 20 minutes essential oils will affect every cell in the body.

Can I Use Essential Oils in Sensitive Areas?

Essential oils should not be used in sensitive areas, which include your eyes and ears, as well as areas with mucous membranes.

How Often Can I Use Them?

The number of times that you can use essential oils per day will vary. Start by following the directions on the product label and gradually building up to being able to use them a few times per day if needed.

How Much Should I Use Each Time?

Follow the directions on the product label. In general, you should be able to use one to two drops at a time to start and this also depends on which way you are using them, ie diffusing or applying topically.

Are Essential Oils Safe for Use During Pregnancy or While Nursing?

If you are pregnant or nursing, check with your doctor or another healthcare practitioner before using essential oils. This helps ensure safe use for you and your baby. Your doctor might advise you to avoid or limit using certain types of essential oils, such as Wintergreen, Fennel and Sage.

Are Essential Oils Safe for Children?

Always check with your child’s doctor before using essential oils. While many can be used on children, your doctor might recommend diluting these oils with carrier oil first. If your doctor approves the use of these oils on your child, follow the directions on the label when applying it. There are essential oils available specifically designed for babies and children.

Can I Use Essential Oils if I Have a Medical Condition and Take Prescription Medications?

Check with your doctor and pharmacist before using any essential oils if you have a medical condition or if you are taking any prescription medications. Some oils might have the potential to interact with certain types of medications.
