Essential Oil FAQ’s from the Pain Management Center in Irvine

Essential Oil FAQ's Irvine, CA

Essential oils offer a natural way to improve your emotional health and physical well-being. However, it is important to understand more about these oils before you begin to use them. The Pain Management Center of Irvine offers the following FAQs about essential oils.

How Should I Use Essential Oils?

When you use essential oils, follow the directions listed on the label. Essential oils can be diffused, applied topically, inhaled, ingested and used in recipes. Usage directions differ for each of these products.

Are There Side Effects of Using Them?

It is best to test the essential oils first and also apply 1:1 ratio using a carrier oil, such as fractionated coconut oil.  It is possible to experience irritation or discomfort when using essential oils. If this occurs, stop using the product and consult your doctor before applying any topical oils or products on the affected area.

How fast do Essential Oils work?

It takes 22 seconds to reach the molecules in the brain. In 2 minutes essential oils will be found in the blood stream.  And 20 minutes essential oils will affect every cell in the body.

Can I Use Essential Oils in Sensitive Areas?

Essential oils should not be used in sensitive areas, which include your eyes and ears, as well as areas with mucous membranes.

How Often Can I Use Them?

The number of times that you can use essential oils per day will vary. Start by following the directions on the product label and gradually building up to being able to use them a few times per day if needed.

How Much Should I Use Each Time?

Follow the directions on the product label. In general, you should be able to use one to two drops at a time to start and this also depends on which way you are using them, ie diffusing or applying topically.

Are Essential Oils Safe for Use During Pregnancy or While Nursing?

If you are pregnant or nursing, check with your doctor or another healthcare practitioner before using essential oils. This helps ensure safe use for you and your baby. Your doctor might advise you to avoid or limit using certain types of essential oils, such as Wintergreen, Fennel and Sage.

Are Essential Oils Safe for Children?

Always check with your child’s doctor before using essential oils. While many can be used on children, your doctor might recommend diluting these oils with carrier oil first. If your doctor approves the use of these oils on your child, follow the directions on the label when applying it. There are essential oils available specifically designed for babies and children.

Can I Use Essential Oils if I Have a Medical Condition and Take Prescription Medications?

Check with your doctor and pharmacist before using any essential oils if you have a medical condition or if you are taking any prescription medications. Some oils might have the potential to interact with certain types of medications.

Can I Use Essential Oils on my Pets?

Check with your Veterinarian before using any essential oils on your pets. Generally speaking, when using essential oils on your pets, it is best to dilute with water.  There are also specifically designed essential oils for pets.

How do you say thank you to Superman!!! I have suffered with vertigo for 3 weeks, and been scared to death to drive or sailing my boat in the harbor. I even went to see another chiropractor last week, who adjusted me and bragged about himself and how great he was, but what a waste he was. My vertigo was worse the next day and he apparently didn't know the correct treatment. Desperate to find another chiropractor and also calling ENT MD's, I stumbled across this very local chiropractor, Dr. Rick. I called to be sure he knew how to do a specific treatment I learned was ONLY for vertigo patients. He was so personable, his receptionist gave him my call and he spoke to me, explaining what needed to be done, and that he had treated it many times before. When I spoke to him on the phone, I knew that he really did know this specific treatment just for vertigo, since he called it by name. Finding Dr. Rick was miracle!!
